Connecting Manus gloves

Overview

The MANUS integration allows for the use of MANUS gloves for finger tracking in combination with the skeleton solver in QTM.

Components and requirements

  • MANUS Glove(s) and MANUS Glove dongle

  • MANUS Core and Dashboard software

  • QTM 2024.1 or higher

  • QDevice plugin for Manus

MANUS setup

In the MANUS Knowledge Center (https://documentation.manus-meta.com), open the manual for the glove type you are using and follow the instructions on the "First Time Setup" page.

Connect the Manus Gloves

Connect the MANUS gloves to your computer.

  1. Connect the MANUS dongle to the computer via USB.

  2. Start the MANUS Core program.

  3. Make sure that the gloves are recognized and correctly configured in the MANUS Core Dashboard.

After connecting you can close the MANUS Core Dashboard. MANUS Core will continue to run in the background even when the MANUS Core Dashboard is closed.

Setup of Manus Gloves in QTM

Follow these steps to setup Manus Gloves in QTM:

  1. Download QDevice installer for Manus Gloves from https://www.qualisys.com/downloads/ and run the installer.

  2. In QTM, open the Input Devices page under Project Options.

  3. Click the Add Device button and select Manus Gloves in the drop down menu.

  4. Open the Manus Gloves settings page under Input Devices > Gloves to access the MANUS device settings, see chapter Manus Gloves.

  5. Specify the IP address of the computer running the Manus Core software (use 127.0.0.1 when the gloves are connected to the same computer running QTM).

  6. Choose a Model Type depending on the skeleton type used in QTM (Qualisys Skeleton/Metahuman).

  7. Press the Synchronize Settings button to locate the gloves and synchronize the settings.

Making a measurement with Manus Gloves

Create a skeleton

Apply the markers to the actor according to the Qualisys Animation marker set guide. The markers are the same for the Qualisys Animation and the MetaHuman skeleton models. Attach the LHandOut and RHandOut markers to the gloves in the positions specified in the marker set guide. Use a T-pose to calibrate the skeleton.

The use of gloves is supported for the Qualisys Animation skeleton without any further customizations. For using the MetaHuman skeleton model, a custom skeleton is required. Contact Qualisys support for more information.

Create bindings

Go to the Glove processing page under Project Options > Processing, see chapter Glove.

The glove processing step settings dialog is used to create bindings which associate a glove to the skeleton its data will be applied to. To create a new binding, select an available glove in the bottom row of the bindings grid and then select the associated skeleton.

Once the glove bindings are created, you can stream and capture skeleton data including the hands driven by the gloves.

Capturing, viewing and exporting data

To stream or collect data with Manus, simply start a preview or a capture in QTM.

To view the glove data in QTM, open a Data Info window, right click in the display area and click Analog data.

To view the skeleton data, open a Data Info window, right click in the display area and click Skeleton data.

The data can be plotted by selecting the rows in the Data Info window, right-click, and select the data to plot from the Plot sub-menu.

The skeleton data can be exported to FBX, TSV, MAT and JSON formats, see chapter Data export to other applications.
