Understanding the calibration results
When a calibration successfully finishes, QTM will display a results window with detailed information.
-
Beside the ID for each camera, you will see the X, Y, and Z coordinates of the optical center of the camera.
-
Below “Points,” you will see the number of times during calibration that each camera saw the markers. Ideally, there should be a large number of points, and they should be similarly high for each camera.
-
The last column displays the average residual for the points, which should be as low as possible for all of the cameras.
-
Any outliers in the points or average residual columns could indicate that the calibration should be redone.
-
For wand calibrations, the results window will also display the standard deviation of wand length, which is the variation of the observed length of the wand. Acceptable values for the standard deviation of wand length depend on your setup, but in general, a smaller number indicates more precise calibration results.
If you need to redo the calibration, return to the live view (Ctrl+N), then click on the calibration icon to repeat the process.
